Teacup, produced by James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious) is suspenseful enough. It leans on gore and even sci-fi later on, but hardcore horror fans might find Teacup’s offerings tedious. Its real problem, however, is pace and depth. The series is a mystery at its core, but the revelations come either too late or tame—the stakes never feel high enough to have us on our toes. Then there’s the family at the heart of the story. The actors’ performances are compelling, but they can only do so much with so little on their hands. The characters are mere sketches, tropes even, making them hard to root for and follow till the end. Teacup, again, offers enough to intrigue, but it may be lacking if you’re looking for something full-bodied and actually terrifying.
