What a great allegory for love this show is. It's incredibly awkward and vulgar in the right places, best exemplified by dialogue scenes that are uncomfortably long and often uncomfortable to begin with. Our two lead characters are frustrating and manipulative, which might confuse you into thinking the show itself is frustrating because you see them so much, and sometimes it is. At which point, you might start to ask yourself why you keep watching, why you subject yourself to this emotional torture episode after episode, season after season—eventually, you stay for the other characters, they're funny and don't deserve to be abandoned.

About love as much as it is about loneliness, romance as much as realism and the longing for a genuine connection as much as being tired of that longing - this is a smart and well nuanced series on building relationships. It follows Gus and Mickey, two damaged people trying to recover from bad breakups. They're respectively played by writer/creater Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs (Britta from Community). Love portrays their love story as an example of relationships by default, chemistry that stems more from the need to be in a relationship than any physical or intellectual attraction. And it features many hilarious sequences, some are cleverly composed jokes but most of them are the painfully-real type.Genre: Comedy

A beautiful coming-of-age story that is mixed with one of the best depictions of a mother character in movie history both make Lady Bird an absolutely exquisite film. Its slice-of-life story taps into the universal issues, dreams, and frustrations that almost every small-town kid has faced; and it manages to do all of this without feeling forced or cliché. This is because of the attention and care that were given to it but also because of how tightly it's based on the life of its writer / director Greta Gerwig. A wonderful movie.

When you know that you’re dying, it’s quite lucky to be stuck in a time loop, which is what happens to Zoya Lowe in the science fiction drama Omni Loop. It plays out in a familiar way, where going through the loop means having multiple tries to figure out how to end the loop, and learning the lesson the loop has to offer, but unlike other time loop stories, the lead purposely triggers the time loop, in order to stave off death. It's an interesting addition, one that makes a well-worn, but understandable conclusion to let go and move on, but Omni Loop struggles to balance the comedy and the drama, muddling the film’s tone and being tame for a film primarily concerned about mortality.Genre: Comedy, Drama, Science Fiction
